Tortillas
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening (can be substituted)
- 1 cup hot water
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients with shortening until crumbly
- Slowly mix in hot water until dough sticks together and retains its shape (may not need full cup)
- Knead the dough for 10 minutes
- Cut/rip dough into 12 equal pieces and form them into balls
- Cover dough balls with a damp paper towel for 10 minutes
- Flatten balls into medium to large tortillas
- Bring a skillet to medium-high heat
- Cook each tortilla, one at a time, until bubbles form and they have brown spots.
- Serve warm
- Store leftovers in refrigerator
