Tortillas

Homemade tortillas are really simple to make and taste great (plus they have much fewer ingredients than the store bought variety).

Preparation time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Serves: 12

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine dry ingredients with shortening until crumbly
  2. Slowly mix in hot water until dough sticks together and retains its shape (may not need full cup)
  3. Knead the dough for 10 minutes
  4. Cut/rip dough into 12 equal pieces and form them into balls
  5. Cover dough balls with a damp paper towel for 10 minutes
  6. Flatten balls into medium to large tortillas
  7. Bring a skillet to medium-high heat
  8. Cook each tortilla, one at a time, until bubbles form and they have brown spots.
  9. Serve warm
  10. Store leftovers in refridgerator
